Testing the Dartmoor Base Layer

A great base layer can make all the difference when running in the winter, especially as weather conditions can change so quickly. So when our #TeamIffley ambassadors found out that we were designing one, they were eager to take it for a test run (literally). Here’s what Steve Skinner and Sam Pearce had to say about running in our new Dartmoor base layer.

Sam’s thoughts

Before the run

When I first received the Dartmoor base layer I was struck by how soft and lightweight it was. It was very comfortable and the cut was just right.  There wasn't a lot of spare material but it wasn't tight either.

How you felt during the run

The Dartmoor worked very well at wicking away sweat while running uphill, and kept the edge off the wind. When combined with the Sheen Gilet it was very suitable for a long slow run with changing weather conditions.

After the run

After the run the base layer dried very quickly and didn't smell at all, so it was ideal for runs where you have to travel from home to the start. I wore it for three runs before it started to need a wash, but I could definitely have worn it again if needed!

Steve’s thoughts

Before the run

With the weather turning colder I decided the Dartmoor base layer would be perfect for keeping me warm on my running commute and easy long runs. I am quite sensitive to high or low temperatures so it's important for me to have great technical running kit that allows me to train well, especially in the build up to marathons.

How you felt during the run

As the Dartmoor base layer is made of 100% Italian merino wool it is incredibly soft. It keeps me warm, and there have been several times when I've almost forgotten I'm wearing it. It feels like a second skin.

After the run

Given that I run to work regularly it is important for me to keep warm. Before wearing the Dartmoor base layer I would arrive at work cold and then struggle to get warm. I have also found that Dartmoor wicks sweat and dries quickly. This is great because I can wear the base layer on multiple occasions before I have to wash it allowing me to run big mileage in the colder months.
