The Track Runners' Kit Guide

Look sharp on the track

The track can sometimes seem an intimidating place.  Anxious anticipation of the session to come…Speed merchants already out on the track looking effortless and easy…Yet a regular track session is well worth the effort whatever your preferred racing distance.

Our track running kit guide will help you look sharp, even if we can’t guarantee its effect on pre-session nerves.

What to wear for a track session

Ideal track kit includes a vest...

A vest is the best type of top for the track at this time of year because it will keep you cool.

The Iffley Road Lancaster vest is made from our trademark drirelease piqué – highly wicking, lightweight and soft.  The cut is slim with carefully shaped armholes which allow free movement without being too gaping.

It’s available in four plain colours – Track White, Pebble Grey, Night Sky and Gravel Black – plus three rather natty striped options.

…and shorter shorts

Traditionally, runners have worn shorter shorts on the track as they give greater freedom of movement.  Fortunately decency has come into play and today’s styles are not as short as worn by the Golden Generation of Seb Coe, Steve Cram and Steve Ovett trio of the 1980s!

If you think shorts are just shorts, it’s time to think again!

Our Pembroke shorts are ideal for track running.  They are our most pared-back design, making them perfect for out-and-out racing or pushing for a PB.

Pembroke is our shortest style, with a leg length of 5in/13cm. This style suits all runners.

These shorts have two small front pockets (to fit a credit card, single key or gel) in the front. Pembroke has a soft, highly breathable mesh brief and a discreetly embossed Iffley Road roundel and signature tri-stripe vents.

Pembroke is available in Gravel Black, Dover White, Marine Blue and Leaf Green.

Don’t forget to stay hydrated

It’s very important to keep hydrated – either with water or a sports drink - when doing a track session.  We generally leave our water bottles by the side and take a glug whenever we can.

The Iffley Road 750 ml water bottle is made from taste free plastic with “easy squeeze” body and a leak-proof, self-sealing valve.  It is BPA free, has an ergonomic grip and is dishwasher safe.

Post Run Kit – A hoodie and sweats

Once you’ve finished your work-out and you’ve cooled down, it’s natural to want to put on some warmer clothing.

Even if you’ve come from work, the last thing you’ll want to put on after a hard track session is smart, constricted clothing.  A hoodie and sweats are ideal comfort clothing after a hard session.

Hoodie

You won’t regret buying our Fife hoodie.  It’s made from a generous 390g polycotton in a versatile pebble grey mélange.  It’s cool yet cosy and features a looped cotton interior and smooth outer, which really holds its shape.

Fife has our trademark slim cut and has a generous hood with a securable draw cord, deep pockets and an elasticated rib on the cuffs and hem.

Sweats

Our Onslow sweats are ideal post-track wear either alone or paired with our Fife hoodie.  If you don’t plan to shower and change, they will slip nicely over your shorts.

Made from the same 390 gram polycotton in grey mélange as Fife, they are elegantly tapered with deep pockets plus a secure zipped inner pocket.  They also feature an elasticated waistband with draw cord and matching grey rib at the ankles.
