Top Festive Running Events to get you in the Christmas Spirit

Now that December is finally here the countdown to Christmas can officially begin. Here at Iffley Road we think there’s no better way to fully embrace the Christmas spirit (and get a head start on fitness for the New Year in the process!) by entering a festive run.

We’ve compiled a list of some great UK-based festive runs for the Christmas period. Entries always fill up fast, so if there is a run on our list that catches your eye, don’t delay in entering.

Christmas Mud Run

9 December 2017 - St David’s, Wales

What better way to escape from the Christmas madness than to spend a couple of hours running around the North Pembrokeshire countryside whilst taking on a whole range of natural and man-made obstacles? The Christmas Mud Run is an 8km run, and the course will take you over the boundaries of 3 farms, while also being in touching distance of the magnificent Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

Santa Dash

9 December 2017 - Brighton

Brighton’s Santa Dash is a nice 5km out and back run along the seafront. The flat nature of the course attracts runners who are chasing those all-important PBs! There is also a 400m race for children that is held just before the start of the main event.

Santa Run

9 December 2017 - Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a spectacular place to visit during the Christmas period, and the Santa Fun Run & Walk in the beautiful West Princes Street Gardens is just one of many activities to get visitors and residents in the festive mood. The Santa Run is a 2.5km event that is suitable for runners of all abilities. Children and dogs are welcomed, with special prizes to be awarded for the best-dressed pushchairs and best-dressed dogs.

RunThrough Christmas Olympic Park

10 December 2017 - London

The RunThrough Christmas Olympic Park event is held in the spectacular and iconic grounds of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This course is not only flat and fast, and so has great PB potential, but it is also very inspiring. Each kilometre is accurately marked out with distance flags, and plenty of helpers will be on hand to keep runners on track and motivate them to the finish. Runners will receive a themed medal, plenty of water, fruit and mince pies.

10 December 2017 - Huddersfield

A 6km mixed terrain – comprising of roads, tracks and trails – with feed stations every 2km stocked with mince pies! Pieathlon is a relatively easy run, so feel free to run, walk or even crawl your way around this Pie themed event.

Christmas Reindeer Fun Run

10 December 2017 - Warwickshire

The Christmas Reindeer Fun Run is a chip timed, traffic free and mixed terrain fun run, held within the undulating grounds of Stoneleigh Park. Entrants have the choice of three distances around a 5km loop within the Stoneleigh Park. All finishers receive a medal and a Christmas pudding. The race is for runners of all abilities, and a prize will be awarded to the runner with the best Christmas fancy dress.

The Kent Christmas Cracker

10 December 2017 - Kent

This two lap 8km race takes place in the traffic-free setting of Betteshanger Country Park. There are Christmas puddings and other festive treats on offer, and a special festive medal and a glass of mulled wine will be waiting for you at the finish line. The race features chip timing, ideal for those wanting to really push themselves, and is suitable for experienced runners and beginners alike. A children's race and a 3km fun run is also held at the same time as the main race.

Chase the Pudding

17 December 2017 - Weymouth

Now celebrating its tenth year, this light-hearted event sees runners chasing a Christmas Pudding along a 5km Weymouth beachfront route. A separate 2km Chase the Elf event is simultaneously held for under 14s. So get into the Christmas spirit with family, friends or work colleagues, and know that every penny you raise in sponsorship will go directly to the Will Mackaness Trust charity.
