Not sure which of our running shorts to choose? These five handy tips should help.

1. Length

We offer three lengths of running shorts. Lengths are measured on the inside leg, from the crotch to the leg opening.

  • Pembroke is our shortest style, with a leg length of 5in/13cm. This style suits all runners, but will look particularly good if you’re shorter than average height.
  • Brighton has a 8in/20cm inside leg, and falls just above the knee on average-height men. Brighton have a relatively relaxed cut that suits everybody.
  • Hampton is the same length as Brighton (8in/20cm) and so also falls just above the knee. This style particularly suits those with longer legs.
  • Chester are knee length (10in/26cm), making them long enough to cover and protect the upper leg muscles.

2. Build

Pembroke and Hampton look especially sharp if you have a slimmer, distance-runner sort of physique.

If you’re built like a sprinter, or have bigger thighs from rugby or cycling, you may want to consider Brighton. Their slightly more generous cut is ideal for a heavier build.

Chester are made from a durable, high-stretch fabric, and so compliment all builds. Their tight, stretchy fit allows for exceptional flexibility.

3. Pockets

Think about what you normally take out on a run. What sort of pockets would you like, or need, in your running shorts?

  • Pembroke has two front pockets, designed to fit small items such as credit cards or energy gels.
  • Brighton has two traditional side pockets plus a generous secure, zipped inner pocket on the right hip which fits most standard smartphones.
  • Hampton has two traditional side pockets.
  • Chester has two secure pockets - one on each leg - so that you can store your smartphone and keys safely and comfortably during your run.

4. Activity

All three styles are ideal for running, but are great for other sports and activities too. 

  • Pembroke, our most pared-back design, offer minimum drag with maximum ventilation, making them perfect for out-and-out racing or pushing for a PB.
  • Brighton, with its slightly more relaxed cut, offers maximum freedom of movement and lends itself well to running, gym workouts, or the tennis court.
  • Hampton is a truly versatile pair of shorts that you'd feel comfortable wearing during and after your workout alike.
  • Chester offer excellent support and protection to the upper leg muscles, and are therefore perfect for colder weather running or intense gym workouts. Because of the snug fit they provide the most muscle support and are the strongest when it comes to chafing-prevention.
