Our Merino

It’s well known that merino is great for running because it naturally wicks sweat away from the skin and regulates the body temperature in all conditions. But our Merino is a little different from the traditional type used by most other sports brands. The merino in our long sleeved tops and beanies is made by one of Italy’s leading specialist wool mills. It is the only wool mill in the world that has EMAS (Eco-Management System) environmental certification.

Our supply chain

Our mill directly manages and controls the entire production process, selecting the merino from sheep ranches it owns in New Zealand, ensuring 100% traceability. The sheep graze in Rugged Ridges and Glenrock and Otamatapaio Stations, where the best sheep are raised for the production of merino wool. It then employs an innovative spinning system that results in a yarn, which is 20% softer, 30% more stretchy and 15% more resistant than traditional merino.

Heat regulating and breathable

Merino sheep live in a climate where the temperature fluctuates dramatically. This means in the winter the wool keeps them warm, in the summer it keeps them cool. It’s the very same reason why desert nomads wear wool during boiling hot Saharan days. Thanks to the mill’s unique spinning system, there are more fibres than traditional merino, which increases breathability considerably.

Itch free - Odour free

Plenty of other brands claim to have fully itch-free merino but our skin tells us otherwise. The special spinning system used in making our merino means the fibres are softer, smoother and more compact. This is why it is 20% softer than traditional merino. Our merino won’t smell because the wool fibres repel liquid, which slides off it. The fibres do retain water vapour (perspiration) but release it to the exterior. Our Thorpe merino tops can be washed at 40 degrees and ironed easily. But considering the fabric is so breathable and collects no odour you shouldn’t need to wash them very often. More time for running, less time for laundry!
